The Opportunity Wendy Ellen Inc.'s Client is an established, privately owned financial services organization seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee full-cycle accounting and support the financial health of a group of related companies. This is a hands-on senior accounting position suited to a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who can manage competing priorities, meet critical deadlines, improve reporting processes, and work collaboratively with ownership, mortgage administration, accounting support staff, and external advisors. Key Responsibilities Manage full-cycle accounting for a group of related companies. Maintain the chart of accounts and general ledger using Sage 50. Complete monthly bank reconciliations and daily trust-account reconciliations. Prepare month-end reconciliations, financial statements, and management reports. Develop budgets, forecasts, pro formas, sensitivity analyses, and Excel-based financial summaries. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, GST filings, annual returns, and related accounting functions. Prepare annual T4 and T5 information returns. Coordinate year-end working papers and financial reporting. Liaise with external accountants, auditors, consultants, and contract financial professionals. Work closely with mortgage administration staff regarding fundings, full and partial payouts, interest distributions, and related transactions. Supervise and coordinate bookkeeping and accounting administrative support. Maintain a master reporting and compliance calendar covering filings, insurance, bonding, annual returns, audits, quarterly reports, and management reporting. Participate in compliance and management meetings, providing meaningful financial insight and recommendations. Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls, reporting accuracy, workflow, and operating efficiency. Perform other accounting and financial responsibilities as the organization evolves. Qualifications and Experience The successful candidate will bring: Progressive full-cycle accounting experience, preferably within financial services, mortgage administration, lending, investment, or a multi-company environment. Strong working knowledge of Sage 50. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience preparing management reports, budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses. Experience with bank and trust-account reconciliations. Knowledge of Profile tax software is considered an asset. Experience coordinating year-end work with external accountants or auditors. An accounting diploma or degree; a CPA designation or progress toward the designation is considered an asset. Experience supervising or coordinating bookkeeping and accounting support staff is preferred. The ability to learn and work effectively with specialized mortgage administration software. Strong organization, forward planning, and consistent follow-through. No avoidable late filings, penalties, or missed financial obligations. Meaningful improvements to accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency. Compensation and Benefits The organization offers: Competitive annual compensation in the range of $110,000 to $120,000, based on experience and qualifications. Annual profit-sharing or performance-based bonus opportunity. Immediate participation in a group health, dental, and disability benefits plan. Four weeks of paid vacation. Paid statutory holidays. Employer-provided computer equipment. Complimentary heated underground parking. Limited remote-work flexibility, generally one to two days per month. Work Schedule This is a full-time, primarily in-office position based in Calgary. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, with flexibility around an approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. operating window.
