We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Payroll Specialist to join the payroll team of a leading healthcare organization in Ottawa. This contract opportunity runs through the end of October, with the potential to extend. Reporting to the Payroll Manager and working as part of a collaborative team, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll across multiple affiliated organizations. The ideal candidate brings a minimum of two years of payroll experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment. They demonstrate a high level of discretion, work independently, and effectively manage competing priorities. Key responsibilities include: Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on schedule Complete payroll transactions related to employee HR changes Apply collective agreements, payroll legislation, and organizational policies Calculate employee earnings, deductions, benefits, and other payroll payments Audit payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance Prepare payroll reports, remittances, journal entries, and account reconciliations Administer employee benefits and pension documentation, including billings, reconciliations, and contributions Complete required payroll reporting and maintain accurate payroll records Process payroll-related invoices and maintain payroll documentation and resources This is a great opportunity to join a respected healthcare organization and make a meaningful contribution as part of the payroll team. Qualifications The main qualifications for this role include: Completion of the Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification is required 2+ years of payroll experience, including knowledge of payroll legislation and regulations Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information Excellent English communication skills (written & verbal).
