Our business continues to grow rapidly through new development and acquisitions, creating exciting opportunities for strong leaders to grow their careers with us PURPOSE OF THE POSITION We are seeking a knowledgeable Accounting Manager to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract, providing maternity leave coverage. An Accounting Manager who can lead and motivate accounting staff members and increase department accuracy and efficiency. The Accounting Manager will supervise, and participate in accounting department tasks, oversee the recording, tracking, and reporting of financial information. They will motivate accounting staff members, develop, and implement department controls and procedures, and ensure that the department operates efficiently without sacrificing accuracy. SCOPE AND MAGNITUDE Soul Restaurants Canada, part of the Soul Foods Group, comprises of over 230 Restaurants and Stores including KFC, Taco Bell, and Starbucks brands. Employing over 4,000 employees, the business continues to grow through acquisition and development. POSITION FUNCTIONS Financial Reporting, Analysis and Control (40%) Operational P&L Delivery: Lead the preparation and detailed review of Operational P&L results, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery. Variance Analysis: Provide insightful variance analysis and commentary against budget, forecast, and prior-year performance to support EBITDA delivery and business decision-making. Balance Sheet Integrity: Responsible for the full reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and strong financial controls, with a focus on key operational accounts including accruals, prepayments, and provisions. Audit: Support the annual external audit process, ensuring timely delivery of audit requirements Support Finance Director and Commercial Finance in driving insightful analysis of ongoing financial results. Finance Business Partnership (20%) Act as a key finance business partner to operational and cross-functional teams by providing financial insights, supporting decision-making, resolving operational issues, and ensuring alignment between financial controls and business objectives. Support FP&A activities, commercial analytics, and performance reporting. Assist in analyzing business trends, preparing management information, and providing insights to support strategic decision-making and financial performance. Assisting other departments as they develop strategies, establish objectives, and make decisions that could have a financial impact on the business. Other ad hoc support to cross functional team as needed. Process Improvement & Leadership (20%) Identify, recommend, and implement process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve reporting accuracy. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to streamline financial workflows, improve operational processes, and support business initiatives. Drive standardization and continuous improvement across controllership processes and procedures. Partner with internal and external auditors by providing required documentation, analysis, and support during audit activities. People Coaching & Development (20%) Coach and develop team members through ongoing feedback, performance management, goal setting, and career development planning. Identify training and development opportunities to strengthen technical capabilities, leadership skills, and overall team effectiveness. Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment that supports employee engagement, continuous learning, and professional growth. Build and maintain strong working relationships across the finance team and broader organization to encourage teamwork and knowledge sharing. POSITION IMPACT: The Accounting Manager should be analytical and detail oriented. The ideal Accounting Manager should possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills as well as a strong understanding of accounting and management principles and financial legislation. The position will lead, monitor, and evaluate all day-to-day accounting activities. The role will establish financial status by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information. Working Relationships: Soul Foods Group Canada Leadership Team Key Functional Teams (Operations, Construction/Development, HR) and Finance Functions External partners and vendors as required. Restaurant and Store management teams Franchisor business leaders and partners Specialised or Technical Knowledge/Skills Education and Qualifications Post-Secondary Education in Finance, Accounting, or Business. MBA an asset Accounting designation CPA, CMA preferred. QSR experience an asset. At least 5 years of progressive finance experience in general accounting capacity, QSR experience would be an asset. Ideally with driver’s license and vehicle. Experience and Skills Self-starter with ‘Can Do’ attitude who can work independently and lead a team. Excellent people skills with the ability to relate and communicate with a diverse group of individuals, creating a collaborative environment of trust, and be able to influence changes both internally and externally. Demonstrate ability to use expertise and skills to see the bigger picture and develop ideas in pursuit of positive outcome for the team and the organization. Ability to explain complex finance matters to non-finance business partners. Result driven, flexible, and able to embrace and respond to change effectively. High literacy and proficiency with MS Office and Sage accounting software with learning agility. Comfortable working in an environment of consistently competing priorities and drive the right agenda.
