IT SAP Functional Consultant Human Capital Management (HCM) – Payroll Pay Rate: $58.95/hour, depending on experience Contract Length: 1 Year Location: Vancouver, British Columbia Raise is currently hiring a IT SAP Functional Consultant Human Capital Management (HCM) – Payroll on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable. Description The IT SAP Functional Consultant will act as a Lead Consultant, driving the configuration, support, enhancement, and integration of our mission-critical payroll systems within an S/4HANA environment. Provide expert-level SAP implementation, enhancement, and production support services. You will act as the functional lead for payroll solutions, ensuring our complex unionized payroll processes run seamlessly. This role bridges the gap between business requirements and technical execution. You will collaborate closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, and IT teams to design, configure, and maintain stable SAP S/4HANA Payroll solutions, lead system upgrades, and manage integrations with external systems. Responsibilities Solution Design & Configuration: Lead business requirements gathering, fit-gap analysis, detailed functional design, and hands-on system configuration for SAP Payroll. Payroll Customization: Design, configure, and troubleshoot highly complex SAP Payroll Schemas and Personnel Calculation Rules (PCRs) to handle complex collective agreements and payroll logic. S/4HANA & Integrations: Maintain and enhance SAP S/4HANA Payroll, including managing integrations/interfaces with external, third-party systems and hybrid architectures (such as SF EC/S4H). Advanced Processing: Oversee and troubleshoot complex payroll processes, including retroactive accounting and critical year-end payroll processing and reporting. End-to-End Delivery: Lead deliverables from project initiation through blueprinting, configuration, testing, cutover, and go-live, adhering strictly to BC Hydro's PMO methodologies and safety standards. Documentation & Compliance: Create comprehensive functional specifications, technical designs, system maps, and user documentation. Ensure all configurations align with BC Hydro standards and industry best practices. Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison between diverse stakeholder groups (HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT) to deliver enhancements, upgrades, and business process improvements. Knowledge Transfer: Provide professional guidance, advisory services, and structured knowledge transfers to internal team members and business users. Qualifications 7+ years of progressive SAP implementation and support experience (including project implementation, enhancements, production support, and enterprise system integration). 5+ years of hands-on experience in SAP Payroll configuration and support in large, complex enterprise environments. Deep functional expertise in SAP Payroll Schemas and Personnel Calculation Rules (PCRs). Proven experience managing complex retroactive accounting setups and year-end payroll cycles. Direct, practical experience working with SAP S/4HANA Payroll. Strong experience designing and supporting payroll integrations and interfaces with third-party external applications. Exceptional analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting skills for resolving complex payroll run issues. Nice-to-Have Skills & Experience: Direct experience with SAP Payroll Control Center (PCC). Experience serving in a Payroll Lead or Senior Functional Consultant capacity on major projects. Background supporting large-scale public sector or highly-unionized enterprise payroll environments. Experience working within a SuccessFactors Employee Central (SF EC) / S/4HANA hybrid integration model. Background delivering system upgrades, feature packs, and continuous business process improvements. Education and Certifications A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Commerce, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related discipline. SAP Certification in SAP Payroll / SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll is highly desirable. Core Competencies Technical Balance: Excellent skills in balancing standard SAP out-of-the-box solutions with the right level of custom enhancement to meet business needs without creating technical debt. System Design Expertise: Expert in designing and configuring custom reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, and workflows (RICEFW). Communication & Facilitation: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to lead design workshops, present solutions to executive stakeholders, and manage client relationships smoothly. Utility Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the SAP Utilities (IS-U) industry model and SAP cloud ecosystems is considered a strong asset.
