Project Accountant Location: Richmond, BC Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 (Negotiable depending on experience) Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to support Industrial, Institutional, and Commercial construction projects across British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with construction experience, strong job costing knowledge, and the ability to work closely with project teams on billing, reporting, forecasting, and financial administration. Must Haves 2+ years of construction accounting experience, preferably with a general contracting firm. Strong understanding of project accounting, job costing, progress billing, and cost tracking. Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice coding, and project reconciliations. Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting or construction management software. Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and high volumes of financial documentation. High attention to detail with strong accuracy in billing, reporting, and cost allocations. Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers. Understanding of holdbacks, statutory declarations, lien requirements, and construction billing processes. Nice to Haves Procore experience is a strong asset. Experience with construction accounting systems such as Sage 300, Viewpoint, Jonas, CMiC, or similar platforms. Familiarity with design-build, fixed price, or construction management project delivery models. Experience supporting inter-provincial projects. Knowledge of CCDC contracts, subcontractor compliance, insurance, WCB, and bonding documentation. Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. CPA enrolment or designation is considered an asset. Responsibilities Support the financial administration of active construction projects from setup through closeout. Set up new projects in the accounting system, including budgets, cost codes, contracts, billing structures, and supporting documentation. Process subcontractor invoices, supplier invoices, purchase orders, and project-related expenses accurately and on time. Review invoice coding, cost allocations, and supporting documentation to ensure costs are recorded correctly. Prepare and support monthly progress billing, owner invoices, holdbacks, and project claims. Track change orders, approved extras, committed costs, and budget adjustments in coordination with Project Managers. Maintain accurate job costing records and provide timely financial information to project teams. Reconcile project budgets, committed costs, actual costs, billings, and forecasts. Assist with monthly project reporting, work-in-progress reporting, and financial forecasting. Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding payments, and support collections when required. Ensure subcontractor documentation is complete, including insurance, WCB clearance, statutory declarations, and lien-related documentation. Work closely with Project Managers to identify billing issues, cost variances, budget concerns, and project financial risks. Support month-end close activities related to project accounting, accruals, reconciliations, and reporting. Maintain organized project accounting files, records, invoices, contracts, change orders, and supporting documentation. Communicate with subcontractors, suppliers, internal teams, and project stakeholders to resolve accounting and billing inquiries.
