ABOUT THE ROLE The Accounting Clerk is primarily responsible for supporting the Finance Department in performing administrative, and clerical tasks, managing financial transactions and ensuring accurate record-keeping. This includes verifying and processing customer invoices, billing requisitions, and expense claims using a computerized bookkeeping system; preparing correspondence, reports, statements and other materials according to established procedures; and reconciling customer account statements and communicating with customers. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Compile, organize, verify, and enter a variety of financial data from various sources. Submit invoices and cheques for approval and coding Reconcile vendor statements and resolve related issues Complete data entry as directed from various Finance functions (e.g. Payroll, AP, AR) Assist in drafting correspondence and reports. Provide accurate information, exercise good judgement, and maintain confidentiality and privacy of information and material. Perform data entry and searches within systems and programs specific to the department. Answer telephones, transfer phone calls, take and relay messages, return phone calls. Forward incoming general e-mails to the appropriate staff member. Greet visitors to the organization in a professional and friendly manner Sort incoming mail, faxes, and deliveries for distribution, as required. Operate and maintain personal office space, staff room, and office equipment such as photocopiers, voice mail messaging systems, computer scanning equipment, and fax machines. Manage general office safety and cleanliness to ensure a safe and organized work environment Work collaboratively with the department’s team and assist with assignments, as required. Develop and maintain electronic and hard copy filing systems, as required. Provide support/back up to other administrative roles, as required. Perform other duties as required. KEY REQUIREMENTS Certificate in office or business administration or equivalent program is required. Two (2) years of related experience is required. Clean Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Working knowledge of Sage accounting software is an asset. Experience in a First Nations community is a definite asset.
