Our client, a family-owned Canadian organization based in Vernon, BC, is seeking a Payroll Supervisor to join their team at corporate headquarters. THE ROLE The role of Payroll Supervisor requires someone who is detail-oriented, analytical, and brings strong leadership and problem-solving skills to support accurate, compliant, and timely payroll delivery. It calls for taking pride in quality, building trust through confidentiality and integrity, and enjoying the challenge of leading a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment. Location: Headquarters, Vernon, BC QUALIFICATIONS Minimum five years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership, subject matter expertise, or supervisory responsibilities in a complex payroll environment. Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. PCP or CPM certification, or working toward certification, is considered an asset. In-depth knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, provincial employment standards, collective agreements, internal controls, and payroll best practices. Experience supporting payroll for salary, hourly, unionized, and non-unionized employee groups. Demonstrated experience with payroll systems such as UKG, or similar platforms; JD Edwards experience is an asset. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, confidentiality, and ability to meet critical deadlines. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a service-oriented leadership style and the ability to support and develop team members. KEY COMPONENTS OF THE ROLE INCLUDE Oversee and coordinate end-to-end Canadian payroll operations, including payroll processing for hourly union and non-union employee groups. Review and approve payroll runs, ensuring payroll is accurate, timely, and compliant with company policies, collective agreements, and regulatory requirements. Act as the primary resource for complex payroll inquiries, escalations, adjustments, and employee or leader support. Lead post-payroll activities, including reconciliations, adjustments, error corrections, journal entries, and month end support. Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation, employment standards, collective agreements, internal controls, and payroll best practices. Design, monitor, and support internal payroll controls to mitigate risk, strengthen data accuracy, and support audit readiness. Prepare, review, and analyze payroll reports for internal stakeholders, finance partners, auditors, and operational leaders. Oversee yearend payroll activities, including T4 preparation, taxable benefit review, reconciliations, and related reporting requirements. Identify and implement opportunities for payroll process improvement, automation, documentation, and system enhancements. Develop and maintain payroll process documentation, standard operating procedures, and training materials. Lead, coach, and support payroll team members while fostering a collaborative, accurate, and service-focused team environment.
